Sunday, 17th May

NYNY @ JP2 with Cai

Cheese balls

it's actually hashbrowns with cheese inside.

this tasted so boring. the cheese had a rather bland taste.

not to mention that it came glistening in oil. yuck

We ordered a Seafood platter to share
It consists of a cold crab, battered calamari & prawns, smoked salmon with salad and crispy fried fish.

I liked the smoked salmon best.
The calamari & prawns were average and the fried fish had oil oozing out of it with every bite.
As for the crab..... I would just say that steaming hot crabs taste better =/

Watched Angels & Demons, a highly-anticipated movie!
I had expected more suspense, more action..
Well, it's still nice. Unexpected ending.

Had dinner @ Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao

La Mian in Si Chuan Broth

Their la mian (pulled noodles) is so so good! I kept going on and on about how much I love the soft texture of the noodles.
The broth is good too, it has a strong peanut taste which i absolutely love.

It's really worth it as it costed less than $10 for such a big bowl.
The amount of noodles in it is enough to feed 2-3 ppl. Perfect for sharing!

Xiao long baos a.k.a Steamed pork dumplings
One of the better ones I've tasted, but not the best. Best was at HK =D
I find this better than the ones I had at Din Tai Fung, though.

Sauteed veg with trio eggs
My absolute all-time fav. veggie dish!

Sauteed prawns with egg white
This was pretty normal.
Crunchy prawns with foamy egg white, rather boring too.

Sauteed chicken with macadamia in spicy sauce.

This was rather nice, the diced chicken was really soft and I loved the sauce.
It was sweet, with a tinge of spiciness.. Good for ppl who can't take chilli
and that includes me =)

Pleasant meal we had, though there were hits and misses.
And it definitely wasn't cheap.
Each dish costed more than $10 except for the XLBs and the la mian.
Definitely going back for more la mian in future!
Saturday, 9th May

House of Sundanese Food @ Suntec City

I don't know if my tongue did any dancing, but it certainly enjoyed it =)

forgot the name of this dish. let's just call it super yummy crispy fish, shall we?
it's very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
the bones & fins are edible too. a soft crunch could be heard when bitten into.

grilled marinated squid. a sweet and delightful treat.

tauhu telor (deep fried tofu with egg in peanut gravy)
i call it tofu tower, cos it's as tall as a tower in RL.
this is my favourite dish of the day =D

grilled tiger prawns in tomato sauce

they're sweet and juicy, what's there not to like?

We went to Tom's Palette next.

Granny's favourite mixed with rosemary & apple flavour

i couldn't taste what was granny's favourite exactly, but it tasted like some chocolatey flavour with malteser bits in it! rosemary & apple was very refreshing, i really enjoyed it!

Friday, 15th May

Went to Tamp 1 with Joanne.
There's really nothing much to shop there.

Had our dinner at Thai Express. It's my first time there =)

The crunchy thai glass noodles.. Not bad.

Tom yum soup w/ seafood.

First time having tom yum too. I love it cos I love the scent of lemongrass =)

Joanne came to my hse to visit Jojo after that.

Had a hard time coaxing him out of the kitchen.

He's too afraid of my maid!

My brother's pose is way too amusing.

Jojo looks mighty macho here

@ 味香园, Chinatown

Water chestnut paste with bean skin
It's refreshing and sweet, w/o the cloying feeling.
i really love my sweet soups (direct translation for traditional desserts) :D

Friday, 1st May
Korean food with Cai @ Barley Fields, Bukit Timah Plaza.

Korean Ginseng Soup
The chicken was so tender that it would tear apart at the slightest touch. No kidding.
The soup had a slight taste of ginseng, which I thought was just nice.
Any more would make it too overpowering.

filled with sticky glutinous rice inside.
gave me quite a shock initially.
i thought they were visible fats like what you would see on pork

side dishes. kimchi, boiled potato, anchovies, bittergourd and veggie.

fried spicy rice cakes
one word: yuck
i'd expected it to be like chee cheong fun, soft and yummy
sadly, it tasted like rubber & was totally bland.
No, the spicy sauce did no salvation at all.

beef bi bim bap (i kinda forgot the name actually)
it's just sticky rice with assorted vegetables, beef, runny egg and gravy

mix it up and.. voila! you get this.
very bland. the sauce did not add any flavour to the rice at all.

Seriously, this meal was so disappointing.
It's my virgin experience dining at a Korean eatery, so I dunno if Korean food is meant to be bland and totally boring, or is it just the place that sucks?

So, despite being totally stuffed, we went to a nearby eatery called 'Ming Jia Korean Food' to try Zha Jiang Mian
or Ja jung myun in korean. (whatever it's called)

We've been wanting to try this dish since forever.
The way the female lead from 'Fantasy couple' eats it just makes us salivate.
She made it seem so shiok!

Cheated.. That's what we felt.
It tastes like normal instant noodles with watery black bean gravy.

Didn't expect my first experience with Korean food to be so sucky. Sigh.

No matter how stuffed we are, there's always room for dessert!
Cakes @ Fringe
Blackforest
Just your average BF cake, nothing special.

Carrot cake
my first time eating it, and i was totally blown away.
I loved everything about it
From the salty-sweet cream on top, to the nuts, fruits and carrot-filled moist cake.
There, I'm sold.

I ate most of the 2 cakes and it left me a very happy girl, a bloated one at that.

Sunday, 3rd May
It's a makan outing with Cai again!
Buckaroo @ Sembawang

As you can see, it has a ranch-like style.

Our appetiser, Mushroom soup in bread bowl.

It was delicious, the soup was really creamy and the bread was crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.
We had to be extra careful when tearing off the bread, lest we broke the bread bowl and soup spilled out.

Main course: Triple platter
3 different kinds of meat. Pork ribs, roasted chicken & steak.
Believe me, it looks even bigger in real life.
Cai couldn't even finish it, so it was my job to clear it.

I would have been glad to do it, if it were tasty.
But the pork ribs was so hard and it was really frustrating eating it.
The steak, we asked for it to be done medium-rare, yet it came well done.
Srsly pissed. We want our bloody meats!

So many complaints, but I still finished it up in the end. Hahaha.

Next stop, ice-cream at MOF

My must-order at MOF: cookies & cream, together with strawberry and chocolate ice-cream.

Matcha sundae.
Green tea with red bean ice cream, vanilla soft serve, fruits, corn flakes, kantan jelly & black honey.
That's a whole lot of ingredients in there, isn't it?

Initially, I was afraid that we can't finish these.
But Cai said, 'Nevermind, you can count on me'
Steady.

After a few bites.. Cai said, 'I'm full, the rest you eat'
There, kena cheated.

But nvm, my appetite is really good when it comes to delicious food.
And so I gladly finished it.
I love love love MOF!
It never fails to disappoint.
Esp my fav cookies & cream flavour :D

Wednesday, 6th May
Went to the National Museum with Clique for our NE project

this tank looks so pretty!

a camera from the 1960s

The thing we saw on the show 'The Little Nyonya'
but I forgot what it's called.

There was more, but my cam died on me after that.
Completed our tour and went to have our dinner @ Astons', which was nearby.

I love Astons' cause it's really value-for-money.

Today

Lunch @ Dulukala Peranakan Restaurant
Celebrated Joanne's belated birthday with Peranakan food!
Joanne's craving for them after watching 'The Little Nyonya', so here we are!

Ikan assam pedas (something like that)
You see, I have this really big problem with remembering names and dates.

This sweet, sour, and little spicy dish was fantastic.
The fish was soft and succulent, every bite into it was pleasurable.

I don't usually like spicy dishes, but I really loved this one.
The gravy was great, a little on the oily side, however.

Nyonya chap chye.
Normal, but that doesn't mean it isn't nice.

Ayam rendang. My favourite dish of the day.
The gravy is to die for, oily too, as you can see.
Chicken was all right, not too hard.

We left this place with bloated & satisfied stomachs.
But what's most impt is that the Belated bday girl likes it :D
Happy belated bday girl!

In case you don't already know, there's this new show called 90210 Beverly Hills.
It's a spin-off from the 90210 which aired in the 1990s.
At that time, I wasn't even born yet.

I'm watching this series now. It feels like a younger Gossip girl series.
Minus a whole lot of naughtiness and schemes.
They're only 15 in this show, so it's more PG-like.

It's quite nice, I would say.
Though I prefer Gossip girl, cause I love scheming little Blair.
