It's the official blockbuster season!

Sunday, 21th Jun

This year, we didn't celebrate father's & mother's day as my parents were busy.
Oh well. Went to watch Ghost of Girlfriends Past with Cai.

I think I'm really into self-discovery this days.
I've discovered several quirks about myself.
One would be my love for sneaking food into cinemas.
Weird, you may think. But it gives me that indescribable thrill when I know that i'm doing smth illegal.
This time it was Ramly burger, which imo is the best burger ever.

Let's get back to the movie. Main point.

If you hadn't watched this, well you should.
It's such a funny, yet touching flick. We laughed and we teared.
I shan't disclose any of its content, you go watch it yourselves =)

Tuesday, 23rd Jun

Hokkaido Food Fair @ Isetan Scotts, with Cai again.
Went around to sample the food. Loved the fancy peanuts, cheesecake and potato croquette!

Ion@Orchard

Ain't it simply gorgeous?

Dinner @ Sushi Tei

We started off with the assorted sashimi salad.
I'm currently on a sashimi craze.
The salmon definitely didn't disappoint. However, I didn't quite like the raw tuna, which seemed rather fishy. (pun intended)

Piping hot Umaki, my main purpose for coming here.

It's unagi wrapped in tamago, which sort of seals the deal for the whole thing for me, since these are my 2 favouritest items in jap food.
The dish didn't turn out far from what I had in mind, which means it's great.
Soft warm eggs dipped in sweet teriyaki sauce. My mouth waters just at their mention.

Soft shell crab maki with pork floss, grabbed off the conveyor belt.

The soft shell crab was tasteless

Grilled crab with mentaiko mayo
I love mentaiko-anything, so I just had to order this when I saw it on the menu.

Don't be fooled.
It was actually quite puny despite appearances.

Tastewise, I have to say that it really grows on you.
The crab meat just gets juicer with every bite.
Generally a no brainer, what could possibly go wrong with the addition of mentaiko??
(rhetoric)

What came next was the Phoenix Roll, an upgraded version of the popular Dragon roll, with its inclusion of unagi.

The unagi was superb, it was really soft and had no bones, unlike the one @ Nihon Mura.
The deep fried prawn was great too. However, avocado isn't really my thing.
The rice was rather hard, but there's nothing a dip or two in shoyu can't solve.

Sushi Tei was decent enough to satisfy my cravings, but definitely not exceptional.
At least I know where to go when I have unagi cravings.
I'm still searching for my sashimi holy grail, though.

Headed to Paragon Marketplace to buy bread for this week's breakfast.
Had wanted to have ice-cream @ Haagen Dazs, but was kinda lazy to walk over to Centrepoint.
Seeing this Italian gelato joint in the basement, we naturally chose this over HD.

Apparently, that was a wrong move.

We had the Forest berries, Pink guava, and Macadamia Nut.
The first flavour was way too sweet on the palate. The 2nd tasted exactly like its name.
The 3rd was the best of the lot, but was only average tasting for me.
It's basically vanilla ice-cream with chopped macadamia nuts.
I prefer Haagen Dazs's rendition, it's the real macadamia ice-cream.

It kinda looks like Huat Kueh huh?

Thursday, 25th Jun

Yes, Cai again..
I know you're probably sick of seeing this. Hahaha.
We went to celebrate his birthday today.
Brought him to Golden Sands Seafood for crab.

As we were among the earliest to arrive, our food came pretty fast.
The first dish, the Three Treasures Beancurd.
Consists of fish maw, mushrooms, veg, cuttlefish, abalone, and fried egg tofu that's hidden below.
The thick gravy was great when slathered on rice.

Chicken in Rice Wine
The sweet aroma of the chicken could be detected the moment it arrived.
It was tasty, albeit a little sticky and oily, but in a lip-smacking way.

The highlight of the meal would be their signature Golden Sands Crab, which is basically crabs fried with salted yolk batter.
The salted egg yolk fragrance was so addictive, we couldn't get enough of it.
We literally licked all the batter off the crab and still wanted more.

What a shiok dinner we had, we were totally lost in pleasure (oops, that sounded wrong) and was almost late for our movie!
Thank goodness we'd already booked tickets in advance, as it was a full house in the cinema.

Got cheesecake from Breadtalk and my fav soya bean milk from Mr Bean and rushed up to the cinema.

Fortunately, it was just about to start when we went in.

Before I start on the movie, I would like to recommend Breadtalk's jap light cheesecake to those who haven't already tried it.
It's my first time eating that, and I wished I had discovered its existence earlier.
I've been missing out on such a delicacy for so long!

Just like its name suggests, it's amazingly light and fluffy. It literally melts in your mouth, like bubbles!
It doesn't have the rich cheesecake taste which some people dislike, and it isn't too sweet either.
I'm so going to get the whole cake soon.
Don't understand why there isn't any Breadtalk in CCK or YewTee, where it's more convenient for me.

Back to the movie..
We watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Yes, one of the most highly-anticipated blockbusters of the year!

It definitely didn't disappoint, almost every scene was climaxy. (is there even such a word?)
My heart was pumping real fast throughout the movie, I'm serious.
My only gripe was that it wasn't as touching as its first installment.
But I found it to be good enough already.

As usual, we cabbed home after that.

Lastly, let's wish my makan kaki/RGDK/royal servant Ah Cai a very happy birthday!

Glad you enjoyed it =)

Friday, 19th Jun

Amoy street food centre with my makan kaki, whom I think needs no introduction by now.
He's none other than Mr Vegetable =)

My sole purpose was to try the famous Thunder Tea Rice at Amoy FC

I'm glad I did, cos I kinda liked it.
Not only because it's a very healthy dish, but also because I like all the ingredients in the bowl.
Tofu, ikan bilis, chicken floss, long beans, vegetables and peanuts.
The peanuts and ikan bilis added more crunch and flavour to this dish.
However, I didn't like this bowl of soup that was part of the dish.
It had a strong minty smell, it was left untouched after a sip.

After mixing all the ingredients up.
I notice that I like my food to be colourful and complex-looking! =D

Cai had the dry version of beef noodles from the stall "Hong kee beef noodles"
Tried a little of it. The beef was tender, but the gravy was way too sticky.
I found it kinda gross.

Finally.. I've been wanting to try this stall since forever.

This bowl of Peanut & black sesame paste was from Zhen Jie's desserts.
After mixing it all up, you could clearly see how grainy the paste was.
The paste was neither too diluted nor too thick. It was very satisfying!
However, after happily slurping it all up, my throat felt rather heaty.

And after that.. Due to my poor sense of direction, I caused Cai & I to walk under the scorching sun like 2 stupid fools.
We walked round and round, went back to square one a few times.
Finally, we gave up and walked to the nearest MRT to take train.

Decided to stop by Ji Xiang Confectionery at Everton Park to grab a bite
It's a shop that specializes in Ang Ku Kuehs. Cute little turtles!
I got the Corn flavoured one.

I was leaving the place and then I took a bite..
What happened next is clear enough.
Another 6 to da bao home!
Peanut, Sweet bean & Corn.
Other flavours such as yam, coconut, salty bean and durian were sold out, or I would have bought all home!

I shall make a trip down to get a few of each flavour soon.
You really should try it.. I used to quite like AKK but now I LOVE and CRAVE FOR IT!
The skin is thin and unbelievably chewy..
I'm feeling hungry again but I've finished all of it! =(

Patisserie Glace @ Chinatown Plaza

At last, we reached the place that we had so much trouble looking for.

Strawberry Hills ($5)

I shared this delightful treat with Cai. It's a cake & tart combined!
It starts with a light & fluffy layer of sponge, followed by fresh cream with more strawberries sandwiched within, and ends with a thick layer of cookie tart base.
Ooo, and look at that smear of cream cheese. It's wonderful =)

Fromage Syun ($5.70)

It's cheesecake on a tart base!
I enjoyed every bite of this.. and I'm glad I had this baby all to myself =P
The cream cheese was really creamy without being too sour.
Even Cai, who had a bite of this, said it's better than Strawberry Hills.

Our stomachs still had room for more.. So we got a Rin Rin Iced Blueberry Cheese Tart ($3) to share.

Omgomgomg. This was so good.
It tasted just like chilled blueberry cheesecake on a tart.
My stomach was literally shouting, "ANOTHER!"

I loved it so much I had to da bao another 2 Rin Rin Cheese tarts home.
This time, I chose the Chocolate and Mango flavour =D

I would say that all that sweat was worth it, I'd found my new favourite cake bakery!
To the lovely cakes & cheese tarts: I'LL BE BACK.

Cabbed home to put my da bao-ed stuff into the fridge then we went to Sheng Siong to shop for titbits.
Dinner @ Bkt Timah Market

Satay beehoon from the stall that ALWAYS has many people queuing up for it.
I'd tried it before and it tasted great the last time.
However, this time the peanut taste wasn't strong enough & too little gravy was given.

Saturday, 20th Jun
Met Joanne @ Bugis after she knocked off.
Was supposed to meet at 6.30 but I arrived at 7+
I'm so sorry girl!

Acc-ed her to Iluma arcade to 'catch' plushies. Her favourite.
I think she's quite gd at it too, cos she has quite a collection back home.

After that, XWZ came to pick us from Bugis and we headed to Kallang Leisure Park for dinner.

Initially wanted to eat Sushi Tei but KLP only had Nihon Mura so we had to make do with it as Jo & I were already very hungry!

It's quite interesting, you use colour sticks to order your food and they will cook it & send it to your table.
And despite the crowd, the food came really fast!

Baby octopus
This was alright.. The sauce was tad too thick but I liked it cos it's sweet =)

Salmon sashimi

I've been avoiding this ever since the first time I had it in Sakae (horribly thick)
Nihon's salmon was nicely-sliced, not too thick nor too thin.
I'm accepting sashimi into my life again =)

Ebi tempura

My favourite in Jap restaurants
Nihon's version was quite nice. The prawns were really soft and it was easy to bite into.
However, I prefer the crispier ones I had at Shabuya.

Jo & I shared this pot of rose bud tea. It smelt so nice!
Joanne had this Teriyaki rice don

They were really generous with the mayo

Inoki wrapped in bacon skewer
Salty & chewy bacon with crispy golden mushrooms, what's there not to love?

I had the Unagi.
No rice provided, so I got some sushi to fill myself up.
Forgot to take pictures, but that's okay cos it tasted normal.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with the food here.
I came in without expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised!

Of course, it wasn't superb, but it definitely wasn't bad either.
Quite pocket-friendly too. It costed only $60 for the 3 of us.
I find their food better than Sakae or Suki Sushi.

I was so excited to get Mr Bean's giant ice-cream for dessert but it was already closed when we went downstairs. Very disappointing =(

Headed to Thai Disco next but I couldn't get in, shucks.
XWZ sent us home first cos he's goin to club later on.
What a shame the night ended so early. But part of it was due to my inefficient planning =X

Alright, I shall get to bed now.
Meeting Cai tomorrow.. It's time for some Ramly burger! Wahaha =D

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Sorry.. I just couldn't resist not posting up Jojo's picture here.
Did I mention before how very cute is he???

Eew. My arms look deformed here.
I'm already trying my best to put on weight!
The worms in the stomach thing.. I don't think I need to go thru that again.
Sigh.

Had our dinner at LJS. Been ages since I cam-whored!
*snap snap snap*

Where are my eyes?? They look like two slits instead =o
& off we went to Powerhouse.
Danced the night away. As a result, I got muscle cramps in my right thigh for 3 days.

Sunday, 14th Jun

My first time at Pasta de Waraku.. Given to Cai!
*blush*

Ordered the pasta set, which comes with diluted corn soup and a salad that sends your sodium levels sky high.

Octopus pasta with some green tea wafu sauce.

The pasta was tossed with some kind of oil, olive oil I presume.
And the sauce was bitter, it didn't taste like green tea at all.
Bitter pasta slicked with oil.. It just didn't taste right.

Beef sukiyaki pasta with wafu sauce

I loved this! There was a chockful of ingredients in there..
Tofu, beef (duh), 3 kinds of mushrooms, cabbage, and my favourite RUNNY EGG!
*stir stir*

The yolk was stirred into the sauce and omigosh.. It was heavenly!
Sweet & savoury at the same time.

(been trying to find wafu sauce at NTUC, Cold Storage, Marketplace but to no avail. anybody knows where to find it?)

Our appetiser: Curry Okonomiyaki

Looks like pizza, tastes just like flattened takoyaki.
Probably due to the fact that the same batter is used in making the two.
Ooo.. Just look at the nacho cheese on top. I love that!

It's filled with chopped cabbage and prawns as well =)

Headed to IT Fair to get a router & micro SD
Next, we went to shop for my chocolates (yay, Ritter Sport & Toggi!) and went to Carrefour to get my ground cinnamon and electric food steamer.
I'm so addicted to cinnamon and peanut butter nowadays.
I finished 1/2 a tub of peanut butter in a day! Ok, I'm sidetracking again.

Stopped for a rest at Cedele
and ordered my favourite Carrot Walnut Cake
or was it called Walnut Carrot Cake?

I adore carrot cakes! Gotta have it whenever I spot one.
Cedele's carrot cake was chilled, as compared to the warmed one I had at Fringe.
It was moist and flavourful, nevertheless.

The cream cheese was fabulous! Not as sour as Fringe's carrot cake.
And there was this unknown black nut-like thing in there that I loved. So crunchy!!

Look at the amount of walnuts in there.
They were soft yet not soggy.
I love walnuts too =D

Wanted to catch the movie "Ghost of Girlfriend's Past" but Marina Sq's timing was too late.
Initially planned to catch the 5.35pm show at CCK Lot 1
But when we FINALLY managed to flag a cab and no thanks to the traffic jam, it was already 6pm when we reached my house.

So we had a change of plans...

Plan B: Go home to put down stuff then meet up to have dinner again.

Brought Cai to Karu's Banana Leaf Restaurant
A place that I used to go often during my secondary after-sch days
with Ducky & LALAManX. Lolxzxzx.

Poppadum and assorted veggies, which I kept asking them to refill.
Always have the fish curry to go with your rice.
It's very fragrant, no fishy smell at all.
Very spicy though, I was tearing while eating.

Ordered chicken masala as our choice of meat.
The chicken was nicely done, not too tough nor dry.
Loved the thick paste, whatever that's called.

Had fish head curry as well.
The fish was soft and tasty, but there were quite a lot of bones!

Was stuffed to the brim after we finished our food..
Karu's curry certainly didn't disappoint =)
The bill came up to be $31, rather expensive for only 2 people.
Then again, since when was Indian cuisine cheap?

Despite feeling super bloated, I suggested goin to Swensen's for dessert.
I always believe that no matter how full you are, there's always an extra compartment in the stomach for dessert!

Ordered this Walnut Rocky Road for both of us to share.

Careful, it's bubblin' hot!
Melted marshmallows, Sticky Chewy Chocolate icecream, warm choc walnut brownie, with loads of chopped almonds and choc chips.
What a divine combination.

Headed to Sheng Siong to restock my supply of titbits at home, then headed home after that =)

Monday - It's Auntie day!
Met up with Rongxin to shop for groceries. Hahaha.
We went to Giant and NTUC, bought loads of stuff home.
My arms almost broke.

Tuesday - Movie with Feyfey.
Drag me to hell.
I didn't want to watch this movie, but Fey asked me to acc her to watch it.

It's serious scary shit!
The old lady was really gross, with the false teeth, slime, maggots,...... Do I really have to list it all out?
The sound effects made it even scarier. Piercing shrieks/Loud thumps could be heard every 5 minutes.
Worse of all, it's horror+gore. My two most-hated genres!

Wifey was still talking about the gross scenes while I was eating my dinner(chicken chop)
Felt like puking. I hate this movie.
Hate hate hate!
