Way-too-late posts.

Just a brief recall of recent activities.
In fact, I forgot most of it already.
Will just blog about those I remember =)

Another makan outing with Ah Cai, which I forgot when.
I believe when most people think of 'fish head steamboat', they immediately think of Nan Hwa Chong.
It's the undisputed best fish head steamboat around, no doubt about that.
So here we are =D
Stir-fried kai lan done well. Both crunchy and tasty.
A little on the oily side, though.

Super duper oily prawn omelette. The amount of oil most zi char stalls use is really scary.
However, they weren't stingy with the number of prawns inside. Big & chunky prawns, my favourite.

Braised pig intestine. Very chewy, but somehow I don't like it.
I've always preferred the stomach to the intestines.

The zi char dishes were secondary, because the main star for the night was the Fish head steamboat itself!
Forgot to take pictures of the fish and ingredients in it. Was busy eating =P

I loved how easily the fish tore once bitten into, so soft and succulent.. Like tofu.
Not really that exaggerrating la. But well, you get the gist of it.
For those who are afraid of the fishy smell that most fishes have, good news for you!
Cos the fishy smell is completely removed, leaving only the fragrant smell of the soup.

The soup broth is superb.
It's a little sweet, and totally addictive.
I think they used MSG, cos my throat felt really dry after drinking more and more bowls of it.
Bad for health, but it's worth it :D

Cai bought some chocolates at Lumonte.
Very pretty.

Another makan trip to 'Founder Bak Kut Teh'.
This is THE bak kut teh stall that every, yes I mean EVERY celebrity that ever existed had visited during their stay in Singapore.
It's walls are filled with photos of every celebrity imaginable, posing with the grim-faced owner of Founder.
Love the soft & tasty you tiao that we dip into the soup.
Dip, dip, dip!
I love the peppery version of BKT.
Founder's soup has a very strong taste of pepper, yet not too overpowering.
Just enough for my liking =)
However, I find the meat is a little too tough.
Probably beacause it's lean meat, which means no disgusting white layers of fats lining the meat.
Pig trotters, lean meat only.
Very very nice!
The meat is so soft, you don't even need to tear it into small pieces to bite it.
It just separates by itself with the slightest touch of the fork.

I would recommend going to Founder's for the pig trotters.
If not, just the soup alone is worth making a trip there.
It's located at Balestier, opposite Shaw Plaza.

Even after a satisfying BKT session, it wasn't enough to fill our greedy stomachs.
So we headed to a Suki Sushi branch in the nearby Shaw Plaza.

It proved to be a big mistake.

Suki sushi is a cheater bug.

I understand how some actual dishes may differ from their pictures in the menu
but this unagi sushi is ridiculous.
It looked nothing like how it was in the menu (reddish, slicked with oil, and totally delicious)
Instead, what we were served with was this boring slab of fish.
It even had a nasty fishy smell.

The tamago mayo sushi was equally disappointing. It tastes as bland as it looks.
Sakae can do a much better job.

Inari. Didn't eat this. Cai didn't complain so I guess it must be edible.

Our favourite dish, and the only dish we liked.
Salmon skin maki with pork floss.
My first time eating salmon skin and boy, was it enjoyable!
It's really crispy, and the sweet pork floss complemented it perfectly.

Think it's just a simple gyoza?
Wrong! It's a cannot-make-it gyoza.
The mayo drizzled on top was very sour, it spoiled the whole taste of the dish.

To end of this post,
-- I hate Suki Sushi.
